Hey guys,
So I'm a CS:GO player, play about 3-6 competitive games per a day. Pretty much every game I lag, but not consistently, at random intervals during the game. I am using some TP-Link WiFi dongle, I think this was probably the worst idea, but it was the only way to get internet, see its a HUGE problem for me to use a WiFi in our house, we have 9 devices on the router at ALL times. So I figured out that is probably one of the main reasons why I get that spike to 150MS all the time. The router can't handle all the devices all the time, well that's what I believe.

My PC is about 10-20 Meters away from the Router, so I had to use WiFi at the time, but now I am planning on running a Cat6 35 Meter cable through the roof. My question is it worth it to change from WiFi with 9 devices on it and change to a 35 Meter Cat6 Ethernet cable, will I still get those random spikes? Is it worth the R200? :D :3

Kind regards,
Logic

PS, sorry for any bad English. :3 :erm:

It wont or it will help, ill break it down for you.

1) its the actual bandwidth of the internet thats being used and therefore causing lag. (should someone check facebook while you playing, it will max your line out and cause lag)

2) or what you describing.

What is the router rated at 54 or 300/600+Meg dual or single?

Rather get a CAT5E cable if you can. CAT5E cable is less expensive than CAT6 cable, and shouldn't make any difference notable difference in your case. As you are playing games over the wifi, I'd suggest sticking to cable. While gaming over WiFi I often see my ping hit 1000+ ms. Only solution is going wired.

http://carbonite.co.za/f52/cat6-cabling-yes-111734/ Well, I did find this. Pretty cheap for a Cat6 cable, and I said why not lol. Its R5/M which is R175 for 35M and R25 for delivery. And Cat6 is better for long term in my opinion.

wireless is half duplex whereas cable is full duplex. This means that with wireless sending a packet has to wait until receiving a packet is completed, whereas with full duplex sending and receiving can take place concurrently

Agreed, CAT6 is also not "lekker" manageable.

how fast is your internet for these other 9 devices that connect to it? are you sure your internet is not hitting its speed limit?

if you run a continuous ping to your router from your PC, do you see the 150ms spike there?

cat 6 cable is more expensive and more than you need, except if you are running 10gig-e devices. cat 5 will do. although even getting a cable might not make a difference, since your internet could be maxing out because of too little available for 9 or 10 devices.

Im using wifi and always top fragging
Then again my game does have small freezes but I think its a hdd issue
