Android doesn't do Ad-Hoc unless you root and hack it, but then again Android support SD cards where iOS doesn't.

Some would argue that its simpler just to swap the MicroSD cards as we dont need to move data off the device to swap it between applications like iOS.

so if i were to root my android, would i be able to use such a device?

That is not a guarantee, but a possibility.

The problem with Android not supporting Ad-Hoc connections means this device is not designed to cater for it, Also the fact that you have to root to see, means most journalists would never have checked.

You best place to find out is to search and maybe ask over at XDA.

I am confused about this somewhat. I have my phone rooted and have Wireless Tether installed.

Now from the app:
Wifi-tethering creates a so called adhoc (peer-to-peer) network on most devices.
If I create a hotspot with this app my Transformer (stock, not rooted) can see and connect to it, but the Archos G9 cant.
If I use the build in tethering app (Infrastructure) the the Archos does see it. So it would apear that the Transformer does see ad-hoc or am I missing something.

Yesterday I installed the official Honeycomb 3.2 upgrade on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Settings now shows a "Wifi Direct settings"option. The description says "Connect to other devices via Wi-Fi Direct". Am I correct in assuming that this is an ad-hoc wifi connection?
