Hey guys,

I want to get a wifi extender but the place where I need the extended range does not have any telephone jacks or whatever they are called. I can plug it into a power socket though.

Do any range extenders have the ability to extend range without connecting it to a telephone Jack?

Although I'm not a fan of TP-Link I've been using 2 of these and must say they work great!

After experiencing some really poor equipment, notably from ASUS (amongst others), I decided that I am a TP-Link fan after all. (At least their stuff works, and they try to support SNMP, so my RasPI Cacti server is happy).

I use one of these, and it also works great:

It's dual band, so you can use one band for the uplink and another for the remote AP, or both as an AP (which divides the speed of one of the bands for the uplink). I use 2.4 Ghz for the uplink and 5Ghz for my remote AP.

Nice! Pricing?

If I recall correctly, it was around R500-00 at Matrix 5 months ago -- then again that was before the Ront took a nosedive against the dollar, but you may still find some old stock left.

EDIT: Took a look at Uniterm Direct -- they have it for R599.00 -- not much more that the R419.00 for the single band one.

If you have a low wifi signal, and no powerpoints in-between that you can use, then a powerline extender like this should work better:

This one is 200Mbps and dirt cheap -- you also get them in 500Mbps. Just remember to secure it well-- especially if you are in a sectional title dwelling.
