Hi All,

I currently connect to wifi at home and am curious, is there anyway to increase the power of the wifi on my laptop?

Not looking to buy range extenders, etc.

Just looking to try and boost the wifi strength of my laptop if this is possible.

Thanks!

Not much options to boost laptop signal besides upgrading to latest drivers and moving the laptop? You could reposition the router or upgrade the router's firmware. Check if your router allows you to boost the output power.

Nope. Better look at the options you have written off then.

As above.

What wifi device/router do you currently have, what is the wifi speed and what are you trying to achieve i.e. a faster wifi connection for streaming HD content to the laptop, copying files over the network, etc.
What is you laptop's wifi speed limitation/specs i.e. Wireless Standards IEEE 802.11b/g/n, etc.
(for reference, 802.11b gives up to 11Mbps, 802.11g up to 54Mbps and 802.11n up to 300Mbps dynamic throughput, dependent on the location, walls and other environmental factors).

If you are looking at extending the range and having a stronger reception signal/coverage area, then there are options, however this will not increase the maximum physical speed you currently have; it will however produce more stable connections over a wider area.

I have a TP-LINK TL-WA850RE unit in two of my far-end rooms of the house, with my wifi router/modem roughly center of the house - enables me to use my wifi coverage over my entire property and they work really well (also very easy to set up). I used this particular model as my router/modem handles up to 600Mbps on wifi and the price was reasonable - these devices just extend the wifi range and I use mostly for normal web browsing, skype, mail, external wifi security cameras, etc.
Bought them from UniTerm - think you can get a little discount if you ask nicely and say your a MyBB/Carb member ;)

Flash DD-WRT or something similar, then you can increase the power output of the WiFi signal. Boom your range is extended.
Disclaimer: It may be not be 100% legal. You may also fry your router.
