Wifi Router for the average home

I would actually just get a bare bones gigabit router and spend the balance on a gigabit mesh. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have wasted money on an AX router...
As far as I understood, the OP is not too worried about super duper WIFI. Just gigabit ports as he wants to connect most of the stuff via ethernet.

The AX3 is a good access point, wifi range could be better but throughput is good. Using mine with a LAN cable in access point mode. The few gigabit ports work as they should as well.

The UI is lacking feature-wise. Keep in mind that there is no way to turn off WPS (atleast on my model and FW) if you're security conscious or need that option.

Also there are cheaper capable gigabit/5Ghz routers as some have pointed out. Especially if you're not going afrihost route.

This should sort you out

Huge and complicated learning curve but does what you need

This one is also decent and is what Afrihost give out

I don't really like the

HUAWEI WiFi AX3 Dual-Core

The Wifi range on it, is not so good. My Dad received this Router from Axxess, not too impress with it.

At R1,399 it is in my price range.
Yup I got one from Takealot thanks to Ebucks, but I am thinking of getting another one for the bedroom, really easy to setup and it has boosted my wifi from the pitiful my old Planet did.

Wifi 6 is not about range but speed...

It's off by default...
By pressing the H button, you can also enable WPS to connect a WPS device to the router.
Seems people don't do their homework these days when buying something. Seen it with the Philips Airfryer as well.

Yes note I did say throughput is good. And no WPS is on by default and functions through that H button. There is no way to disable it in the UI so that when its pressed it does nothing and does not broadcast WPS being enabled.

That's silly. If an attacker has physical access to your router you have much bigger problems.

You do not need physical access to bypass WPS, but that is one way too... Just something to note about the router and its something they can address in a SW update. I can maybe sorta get why they leave it on probably for ease of access or mesh or so for their target market. An option to turn off would be nice too as other basic routers have this...

Only with the old pin method.

You can’t turn it on without physical access…hence there is nothing to bypass.

And this is the case for most every modern router than still has it.

WPS fear mongering was relevant 10 years ago, not any more.
