i have a wireless router that i use to broadcast wifi in my house and I can't connect to it all of a sudden! Nothing picks it up! What do you suggest I do?

It is a Senao 2-Port Switch Wireless Router + Print Server. Yes, there is a WAN ethernet port and 2 other ethernet ports. I'll explain the setup briefly. I have the standard old Telkom Marconi router that has a cable going to the main pc and another going to the Senao wireless router (which i have plugged into the WAN port. is this correct?). I'm not sure if i have encryption enabled, how could i check? Thank you!

There is and a Nintoendo Wii and sometimes my macbook and iMac. I also would occasionally use my phone to connect to the wifi.

What should I do?
Thanks :)

The Wireless Router should have a IP address. Typing its IP in your browser should take you to the control panel, there you can change all the settings, incl. WIFI.

Typically, the IP is something like 192.168.1.1 or similar... (but don't take my word for it, as the Marconi routers are 10.0.0.2!)

Look through your manual (the Senao manual) and there should be an IP...
the Username/Password is also there... to login to the Control Panel

I Hope this helps...

thanks Allen
The ISP that installed the unit never gave me a manual (i know, I was young and naive when this all happened :) ) so i don't know what the ip address would be. looking at manuals of other senao routers on the internet, it looks like they use the generic 192.168.1.1 . im not exactly sure what to do though because putting that into a browser doesn't do anything. do i need to change my tcp/ip settings?
thanks!

It would only work if you are sure that you can connect to the router...
I would connect my PC directly to the router (bypass the Telkom Marconi)...

Don't change any TCP/IP settings.. just make sure that any Proxy settings in your browser are disabled...

From there, IF the router is working... it should take you to the right place

ok, i entered 192.168.1.10 as my pc's ip (what i gathered from one of the manuals) and connected an ethernet cable directly between the router and pc and it says that there is a connection but when i type 192.168.1.1 into the browser it tries to load for a couple mins and then times out...

just checking, should the ethernet cable go into the WAN or LAN port in the router?

my tcp/ip settings are normally configured to 'automatically detect' - should i leave it on this?

ok, well when i connect to the WAN port it shows that there is a connection, when i connect to LAN it shows no connection  what am i doing wrong? (checked proxy settings - no proxy in use)

hrmm.. that's quite strange
Try restarting (the router) and disable your network connection (PC) and re-enable it...

when i connect the ethernet to the LAN, the LAN light at the front of the router doesn't turn on or anything... all I have is one ethernet cable running from pc to router (to the LAN port) - is this okay? surely the light should be on?

Yeah... that's right.
The light should come on as you connect it...

The ethernet.. it's not crossover or anything right..?

this is the only info i can see on it:
Senao 2-Port Switch Wireless Router + Print Server
S/N: 054210911
SL-2511SR PLUS/E (TW)
MAC 0050181B29F5

thanks for the help by the way, i really appreciate it.

Crossover = Peer to Peer cables...
Ethernet Cables that you connect from one pc to the other... They're cabled differently to normal Ethernet

No. Cat5 is the cable type...
Sorry, I used the wrong words in my previous post... it's not "cabled" differently, but the connections are 'wired' in a different order... Don't worry about that.

alright no worries, did u see my post of the info i could find on the actual router on the previous page?

Yeah, I did... I saw a "Foreversky" router with the same model.. and I found the manual for that... I'm not sure if it's the same router as yours.. just rebranded or something.. but it seems like you have to set you IP address manually...

Set it to 192.168.1.2..

Is there a "reset" button somewhere on the router?
