Hi

I know I should have thought about this first.
How do I go about properly securing my WiFi network at home?

The guy from the Telkom helpdesk asked to change the WiFi network name and enable WEP64 encription.

Thus far on my own:-
I changed the router default password to something much more secure

Is there anything else I could do?

Regards
L

Yes, change WEP to WPA2.
WPA is alot stronger than WEP.

enable WEP64 encription.

Did he happen to mention when he's coming over to use your unsecured wireless network? :P

Set more secure network name
Set network to invisible
Disable DHCP
Use a nonstandard network range and router IP like 10.0.123.xx - 145
Enable WPA encryption with an alpha-numeric password

Whats the difference between WEP and WAP encryption?

Would changing the router IP not cause any problems? Currently I have it set to the default.

Using WPA (+PSK etc or WPA2 + PSK etc) with a good password for the router is about all you can do, if they're good enough to get past that chances are they'll get past anything else you can try such as playing with IP or MAC restrictions so don't bother.

Though assigning each PC their own IP instead of using DHCP can save you trouble by keeping it more consistent.
