Now, questions :

1. Do the people understand the consequences of using a public Wifi network?
2. I am sure we will see cases of hacking (and all sorts of ne'er-do-well action) skyrocket as more and more (uninformed) people start to use this sort of public wifi network.
3. Will you use such a public wifi network? Or rather your own (secure and slow) 3g connection?

1. If it is free, they will abuse it.
2. Agreed.
3. I will, but my firewall is smooth :)

You do realise that a properly configured wireless network, set up with the correct equipment is just as safe as your private connection? I know the company who did a lot of the work for the Tshwane wifi project and it is indeed set up properly.

I'm sure they enabled wireless isolation on the APs as well. I would use it if i get the opportunity

Yup, AP-Isolation with some restrictive outbound port mappings. Nothing wrong with that, just keep your mobile devices updated. ;)

1. Most people don't yet understand the possible consequences of using a public wifi network, but for the tech savvy people the possible benefits and consequences are all known.
2. That is not a question, but a statement that I agree with.
3. If the public wifi has been proven as effective and reliable by an arbitrary technical source like MyBB, then I would be very keen to use it. My own 3G connection would be used and it would make me feel secure.
