WiFi Service Providers, Cape Town help needed

Hi Guys,

So my current options is down to using 3D or finding a WISP. I'm currently in Burgundy Estate and having massive issues with Telkom.
So I'm fighting the fight and thought I'd just also look into WISPs.

Anyone here have an recommendations from experience?

I noted these:

http://sprintnet.co.za - Looks decent, ok packages and good coverage
http://www.snowball.co.za - Looks decent
http://www.wibre.co.za/ - bit expensive?

Take a long, hard look at the number of towers on Kanonkop, Maestricht and Tygerberg.

Then look at how many antennas are on each tower.

After that, look around at all the radios near you carrying camera traffic.

If that's not enough interference, look at all the WUG nodes in your area.

Then, look around at the recent entries who don't have space on the mountains and who have built access points on houses or shopping centres.

Every site survey we've ever done in that area has been a fail - and we own a 30m mast on Kanonkop with clear line of site to you...

You would be better off starting a petition to get fibre into the estate. If you can get 40% of the residents to sign up, we'll bring the fibre.

Uhm well thanks for the info I think... That is if you where trying to give me some info with that post?

40% of residents in the Estate I live in or are you talking about the whole Burgundy Estate area?
40% does not give much real info, if there is 10 people in my estate and I get 4 to sign up that is 40%

There are already Fiber in the Burgundy, just not down the street I am currently in.

All that said I don't know if it's a IT, Company, Cape Town or just a "this generation" thing but "If you can get 40% of the residents to sign up, we'll bring the fibre" I find interesting.

Will you be paying / employing me for bringing you all that business, not to mention all the future business that will generate?
Really weird way of doing business but I guess that is not much of a surprise in 3rd world "Africa"
 
I also looked at sprintnet, their network speed is the sum combination of upload+download, i.e. if you're on 2M and upload something at 1.5M then your max download will be 0.5M.

Yes I noticed that.

Just found out that the company that did the current (last 2 months) FTTH rollout in some of the area has already scheduled the whole area to be done. 3-6 months and it all should be sorted was said.

If that will actually happen we'll have to wait and see.
