Good day all

I have a quick question with sharing the same wifi network as other tenants/ neighbours.

Are any of the users able to infiltrate or access data on residents pc/ phone? Is there any security risk of data being accessed just by means of being on same network?

This is assuming the residents will give the other users the password and they will access via same network name.

Tia!

Short answer is yes

Longer answer - it depends

How tech savvy are the user on this wifi?
How was the WiFi network setup? Are there VLANs / has client isolation been setup?
Is everyone on the same SSID or are there different ones?

Currently all users via WiFi, and same SSID
If on the same SSID then assume they can get access... or at least poke around. Basic WiFi apps that you install on your phone can scan for open ports on PCs etc and if there are open then access is possible.

Least technical way would be to create a separate SSID just for the neighbours and hopefully your router allows you to put that SSID on a different lan subnet, so e.g. if your SSID gives IPs in the 192.168.x.x range the neighbour SSID could gove them 10.x.x.x ...

Or you could activate client isolation but that would mean you won't be able to access devices on your network e.g. file sharing / plex
