I have a house with a flat about 20 meters from the house. The flat is at the back of the house more or less 50meters from the router which is in the office at the front of the house. I would like to have a wifi signal through-out the house and the flat.

What I have: Wireless Internet as provided by Internet-SA. (5Meg business uncapped. I'm is the FS and our options for highspeed is mostly limited to to Telkom's 4Meg lines) They also supply a small Tenda router for R500 but if I want a stronger router it costs R2600. Not sure if that is a Tenda.

My question, What router can I get that will do the same job without changing the place where the current router is right now and without new cabling for less that their R2600? From what I hear range extenders is not that good as one lose a great deal of bandwidth with them.

If the house and flat are on the same main DB board then your simplest solution is a powerline Ethernet adaptor.

I use it because my home is double story and it works great, just get one where the one end is a wifi hotspot also.

A stronger router won't even necessarily do the job unless you get a proper external wifi hotspot from Ubiquity for example. So that's a much more complicated route...

So I would suggest running an Ethernet cable to the outside building from your router inside.
Place the Ethernet cable in conduit to save costs and to protect the cable instead of using shielded Ethernet cable.

I would then buy an access point to plug into the Ethernet cable in the outside building.
As your performance (internet connectivity wise) is not great, don’t buy a super expensive access point as it’ll be a waste. Go for one of the TP link’s (+-R500 if I recall correctly).

Wifi extenders are horrible and halve the performance... I suggest stay away from this option.
