The router here is giving mad slow wifi speeds. Like <3mB/s.

Its set to b/g, ch 6 and WPA2-PSK. Router is a netgear dgn2000. 3m away from the router. Very little interference.

Tried 2 laptops already at least one of which supports b/g and n too I think.

Is this normal?

Slowest speed device dictates the network speed, btw are you using a cordless phone system.
Yeah, but different frequency. Cordless are @800mhz I think while wifi is at 2400mhz.

The only other devices are wired LANs (100 & 1000).

WPA/WPA2 can kill the performance of the router/ap, which typically have low-MHz processors in them, due to the encryption/decryption. If you open up the AP/router and start searching for the part numbers that make up the system, you will probably find a ~170Mhz MIPS processor (probably a MIPS SoC).

Solid idea regarding the encryption. Just tried it though...no difference between WPA2 and Open.

No difference between channels either. Or mode for that matter. I guess this mystery is not going to get solved. Stupid netgear.

Thanks
