Why would my WIFI link speed (Rx/Tx) report a 144/13 Mbps.

I also see the speed difference when I copy files. 1 MB/s copy to other device 5MB/s copy from that device (Tested with different devices)

My setup :

TPLink ADSL Router : downstairs connected to TPlink Poweline ethernet adapter
Upstairs : TPLink Powerline ethernet Wifi range extender and laptop connected with wifi (I cannot think of a reason why Mains would be slower in one direction)

Firstly do you understand that the 144 is Mega Bits per second and the 1 MB you see is MegaBytes?

It all depends how many antennas are at play and if it's dynamically changing download/upload as required and how many other devices are making use of it.

Often the mains can be terribly slow.

I am asking why would the Rx/Tx speeds differ so dramatically, or is this normal, or does it indicate some fault in the hardware setup somewhere?

Differing transmitter power and receiver/aerial sensitivity, or different rd interference at each end, at a guess

your device is able to receive at a higher rate because the sending party is transmitting more powerfully; you are not able to transmit as powerfully as you are receiving. This could be due to interfering wifi signals. On my router I can set the power it transmits at
