Wifi modem sync problems, not USB modem though :(

Hi,

I'm in and around Paulshof/Rivonia/Sunninghill and for the last 2 weeks have been having a strange problem.

My wireless telkom router stoped being synced 100% of the time - have had the line for over a year without a problem. In the last two weeks the modem goes from dsl light flashing (not syncing) to dsl light being on (synced) all day. I'd say it's syned for an hour a day. I've called ADSL support a few times and had a technie come out. The technie though got his USB modem to sync and connect properly then buggered off happy that 'the problem' was resolved. I've swapped out the wifi router for a new one at a telkom shop and the new wifi router behaves the same. I've dug out a old USB ADSL modem that I got a while back and noticed that even though it doesn't sync all the time it syncs more than the wifi router. Why would the USB modem have better sync 'ability' than a wifi router? I suspect that the line is somehow buggered. The people at the exchange seem to be happy that things are ok there and because the phone line works 100% for calls they're confused.

Anyone had any strange problems like this, or know what might be wrong?

After a few days of messing around with the config, phoning Telkom and Marconi the following has happened:
- A Telkom techinician came out and identified some problem with the line between the telkom box on the street and the box on the property. A 'different twised pair' cable is being used and acording to the technician has resolved the problem.
- The Premium combo modem seem to now sync more often but drops the line or when it does connect is very slow as most of the traffic coming in are bad packets.
- Telkom said it was a fauly wireless modem. So I've swaped it out twice. Surely 3 wireless Telkom (marconi) modems (1 six months old, 1 a week old, 1 a day old) behaving the same tell you that the the line is a problem. The 1st wireless modem previously worked fine for months on end.
- Telkom USB modems and "ADSL Router Pots" single ethernet port routers work on the line fine. They sync after a minute or two of plugging in and the speed seems to run at 100%.
- Telkom say the problem is a hardware problem. Marconi (and I after 2 swaps outs for new Telkom wirless routers) say that it's possibly the line.
- Now in order to have wireless access to the net, I've plugged in the "ADSL Router Pots" into the phone line, connected it's single port to one of the wireless Telkom ADSL router ports. Atlease wireless internet access works in the building again. I just feel that it's a 5 wheel car setup, 4 wheels should work but don't so thus the extra wheel or router in my case.

Anyone have problems with the fancy new Telkom Marconi Premium Combo routers?
