My WiFi link between router and tablet (nexus 7 2013) seems to be capped at 31mbps. Any ideas why?

Seems too fast for b/g but slow for n

No I haven't. Don't have anything other than a tablet here.

Your right it could be that though - lots of AP points nearby. Time for 5ghz it seems. And a new AP apparently

What kind of real world throughput should I be seeing?

so many different variables when it comes to wireless, channel congestion, the quality of the AP, gain from the antenna, obstacles in the room.. also afaik your tab only has a single antenna, so mimo would be useless

31mbps isn't that bad really :)

Ah. Right. Forgot the antenna thing

Just mildly annoyed since the Internet link is much faster.

Speaking of which. What would I need to hook a pc up to the WiFi at 100+?

It's like 5 meters that I need to bridge

ugh
who knew we would ever each that stage in SA... where your internet connection out performs your lan

I'm on 6Mb adsl so I dont share your frustrations ;)

Don't let your network broadcast on the b/g frequency if you don't have legacy devices.

Got it from 31 to 39 with lions advice. Thanks

Also messed with the channels, encryption and power levels without luck unfortunately

Going to have to get someone to pull ethernet into this place....

The only time disabling b/g support should make a difference is if you DO have legacy devices sharing the same channel.
But, your advice did bump his speed up a bit, why? :)
(Assuming he didn't move to 5GHz)

Havoc, where is your AP placed? you got a pic of it?

That could be, but I remember reading an article saying if you do need b/g support, use another AP.
Anyway if you're on Android, this is the best app for checking wifi channels and finding out range etc.

Nivek - It's in a utility cupboard surrounded by hollow walls.

Lion - I installed the tool. Channel looks clear and mine is by far the strongest signal.

The results seem decidedly inconsistent . Just got a speed test saying 9 down 19 up (it's a 100/20 line). Idk something funky about this WiFi.

Also a bit surprised at the number of APs the tool is showing. 4 on 2.4 and zero on 5. I was expecting 20+

Thanks for the input guys

the cupboard and walls will ofcourse have an effect on your signal... so thats most likely your issue

Nah hollow prefab walls. Might as well be cardboard.

I guess it's good enough for a tablet i guess but I'm going to need another plan for the PC...
