WiFi UPS troubles - Fiber

Hi Everyone
I just bought one of those WiFi UPS's
This one:

It powers up my router no problem but won't power up my ONT
Router is 12V - 1A
ONT is 12V - 0.5A

The ONT power light just blinks every few seconds but does not power up.

Any ideas?

Hi, check if your ISP has backup batteries in your area.
As I understand it, if the junction is not powered, your UPS will do exactly what it is currently doing

I'm testing the ONT device itself with the UPS.

It's not powering up at all with the UPS

Are you sure you have the polarity and voltage correct?
Is the DC jack properly inserted?

Are the jacks both 2.1mm or is one 2.5 and the other 2.1?

The router and ONT have very different input jacks

I tried every jack that came with this UPS and it does the same thing. The light on the ONT just blinks every few seconds

My previous telkom one had a surge of 2A despite the label saying 1A. You might be overloading your PSU's boost/buck

I left it for a few minutes and eventually it powered the ONT up.
This is a testament to my impatience.

Why it powers up the router instantly and needs a few mins for the ONT is what I don't understand...

Hmm... which LED's are you looking at? Is there a standard power LED or are you hoping the various broadband, service, ethernet etc. LEDs come up right away?

Which one flashes to start with? That might just be an indication that it's booting. Bear in mind that the ONT is a mini PC and needs to boot it's OS and connect the various services.

The power light flashes.
I was expecting the power light to come on immediately.

When I plug the ONT into the wall like normal, the power light goes on immediately but with the UPS, it takes a few minutes before the power light goes on.

I can only think that the power/amps is too low for the ONT. I would measure the voltage from the ups and the std adaptor to just compare them

It's anywhere between 20 seconds and 2 minutes.
I definitely think it's the ONT itself and not the UPS.
The router powers up immediately with the UPS - I even plugged the UPS into my keyboard (the instrument) and that worked 100%.

What is the rating on the back of the ONT's own adapter?

Yeah, that only uses 0.5a so your battery backup will have plenty to spare.
I would check the V output of that adapter with a multimeter and the battery backup to see how closely they match. It might just be a fussy device. Your battery backup might have the option of tweaking V output.

The thing is, after waiting that 2 mins or so for it to power up, it's been smooth sailing.
Had load shedding last night and failover to the battery was seamless.
So it definitely is keeping the ONT powered, the only problem was that initial startup.
