Anyone with a Wii had a problem with it overheating? We were playing on my Wii this weekend for a couple of hours, when it just locked up when I inserted a game (Mario Kart). It said something about the disc being dirty or something like that. I couldn't switch it off or reset it, so I switched it off from the wall socket. When I switched the power on again, it wouldn't go on. Normally when there's power to the console, there's a little red light on the power button, which turns green when you press the power button. But it didn't even show this red light. I unplugged everything and plugged it in again, but nothing changed. Waited a couple of minutes and tried again, still nothing.

So I decided to just take it in for repairs this week (bought it secondhand, no receipt). Just before going to bed, I decided to give it another go, switched on the power and it switched on as if nothing happened. Tried playing a game and it worked without any problems. Also spent a couple of hours yesterday again playing without problems.

Anyone else had something like this with their Wii or know what caused it?

I would be concerned about your power supply unit (the little black box that comes with the Wii). I don't think it was overheating. Another thing it could be is very poor input current - maybe the eskom supply was out of whack somewhat...
If it happens again, take it in!

Hmmm..never heard of a Wii overheating.
Mine is working fine, and when i clocked an average of 5hrs on it with Zelda, I did not have any issues!

Yup, I'm not sure if it's overheating, just all that I can think off. Other than this I haven't had a single problem.

Hmmm..the disc read error might be something serious.
Take it in for repairs or fone Nintendo SA first and see if they know what might be causing it.

MMMMmmm.. five replies and yet no Sony fanboys have told you to "Wii" on it to cool it down?!!?!

I am thinking bout getting one of those inter-coolers for mine.. it sometimes gets quite warm and then I get all concerned like...

ROFL...why would they bother when you have found the solution yourself!
