I want to get Wii Play, but I really don't need another Wiimote. So my options seem to be to get a second hand copy of Wii Play without the Wiimote (but no-one replied to my post in the classifieds :( ), or to buy Wii Play with the Wiimote and then try to sell the Wiimote.

Do you think I'd be able to get rid of the extra Wiimote, or would most people just go out and buy Wii Play for themselves?

The WiiPlay with the bundled remote is only R100 more than a stand alone Wiimote I think?
Maybe just keep the extra remote - cause you never know when friends might just rock up and wanna play tennis or something. At the very worst, you have a spare remote incase one goes flying out of your hand?

I'd be curious to know what you think about WiiPlay - I have yet to see it demo'ed anywhere and the screenshots on the nintendo site leave alot to the imagination. So I am in two minds about getting it myself.

I heard it was only so you get the feel for the motion sensing and controls ... ?

Hi Cathryn, Sorry to side track here, but how did the swap out on your Wii PSU go? Buzzing all gone now? What happened?

Same here Cathryn, going off topic. How cool is the Wii really? ;)

Hi. I bought the Wii Starter pack from Kalahari and it came with Wii Play, it's just a collection of quick arcade-style games to help you get a feel for the Wii Remote. That said it's a lot of fun and something you can pick up and play for a few minutes when you're bored. You will have an easy time selling the Remote if you want to, but I reccommend getting another just in case, failing that in the next few months I'm sure you'll find people selling their copies of Wii play at Bid or Buy and others if you want to wait.
For those wondering about the console, yes it is fun to play, and some of the sports games are actually tiring, I worked up a sweat (which only shows how out of shape I am:-) Be warned that connecting it to the internet is difficult and will probably require you buying an extra gadget for R300+.

Side track away! :)

The PSU's still buzzing; I haven't heard anything yet from Core about replacements, so I'll have to drop them an email and see if they've made any progress yet. I generally just leave it unplugged when I'm not using it, which is a bit annoying.

The Wii itself is cool. I think it is more a party system, but it is fun playing alone too. Wii sports is great fun; and that's why I want to get Wii Play, because that's actually what I end up playing tennis the most! I don't have time to play long games - I got Rayman Raving Rabbids, which is bit frustrating (each mini game is just a little bit harder than it needs to be; either I'm not very good at it, or you're meant to be sitting in a crowd of people, laughing at each other); Red Steel, which seems okay; and Need For Speed Carbon, which I'm absolutely hopeless at (although I've only played for about 10 minutes).

For me, it's all about the controller - that's what makes it fun, and I want to play games that make use of the controller as a motion control device rather than just having it tacked on to existing gameplay methods. So I prefer sports games, sword fighting, that kind of thing (btw, it's difficult to use it as gun - your hand wobbles more than you think, and it's fairly sensitive).

Overall it's good - I don't regret buying it :D

Yup, that's exactly what I want it for!

Me too! The boxing is particularly hectic.

Really? I got it set up quite easily, but then I have a wireless router which probably simplified it!

Is the trouble come in if you try to connect using a wired router?

I used my wireless router to connect and after typing in the security keys to connect it worked fine.

Thanks for the update Cathryn. Mine still buzzes but I'm still alive.
And sorry, I want to hold on to my copy of Wii Play for a little while longer!

Thanks guys ;) Now only if I had the money....grrrrr ;) :D :p

Sorry, those who have wireless routers shouldn't have a problem, it's the rest of us that have trouble. And I completely agree about Boxing, it's really tiring to play. Are you serious about the buzzing, because I hear the same sound too, is it a faulty or is it supposed to be like that? And yes it is rather loud if everything around it is off.

No, it's not supposed to buzz, but apparently it's not dangerous if it does - just very annoying. I sent mine back to Core, and they checked it out, then sent it back to me and said they'd swap it out when they've sourced replacements - I'm waiting to hear from them, but when I do, and if the new one doesn't buzz, I'll post here so everyone else with a buzzing psu can also get theirs replaced :)

What's the issue with a wired network?

You need a Wii Lan Adapter to use the wired connection and Nintendo have not yet produced a Wii Lan Adapter, so a wired connection is not possible as far as know.

I sent emails to Core with the following info about it. It appears to be a common issue 'apparently' not dangerous. The links concern the buzzing found on Wii's distributed in the UK.

I've even swapped my Wii at CNA, but the new one I got also had the same buzzing problem.

The fact that its a common issue, and Nintendo have never recalled in the UK (or here) means I'm not overly concerned about it. But hopefully we will get the option to replace the PSU if we want to.
