Wilder vs Fury 2

Deontay Wilder has blamed his heavyweight title defeat against Tyson Fury on the three-stone costume he wore to the ring to celebrate Black History Month.

Confirming that he intends to activate his rematch clause against newly-crowned WBC heavyweight champion Fury, Wilder revealed that he had no energy left in his legs following his ring walk after wearing an extravagant costume to pay tribute to the annual celebration of African-American history.

The 34-year-old claimed that he was not able to try the 40-pounds outfit on until the night before Saturday’s fight, when it was too late to change his plans. Speaking to Yahoo Sports after the seventh-round defeat, Wilder said: “He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is my uniform was way too heavy for me.

“I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through.
“I was only able to put it on (for the first time]) the night before but I didn’t think it was going to be that heavy. It weighed 40, 40-some pounds with the helmet and all the batteries.

“I wanted my tribute to be great for Black History Month. I wanted it to be good and I guess I put that before anything.”

Just watched the fight. Fury destroyed Wilder with the kidney punches.

Wilder saying his costume took his legs is just pathetic. And then moaning on his trainer for throwing in the towel. Saying he had 5 more rounds in him.

That is an amazing attempt at using the race card there.
Really? Got nothing to do with race man.

He was dumb. Should have come out without the costume then. He has one job, be fit for the fight, and his trainer must make sure that he is.

They can blame the costume all they want, but they still chose to wear it despite the risks.

Weak sauce. I admired Wilder for his fighting spirit to get up after the knock down twice. but this nonsense just undid all of that. He better call his own bullsh*t and git gud

Had nothing to do with the costume. That much weight at the pace he was moving would do little to your legs long term. He got hit. After he got smashed in the ear his balance was stuffed and he kept falling over. He has always been a boxer who takes hits and does not use a jab as well as other boxers relying on that big right for his comebacks but this time it failed him. He was outclassed. That is all.

Bottom line is he underestimated Fury.

Yup, but hes done his stock more harm than good by coming out and blaming the uniform, that is seriously just weak IMO.

According to reports, he was able to try it on the night before. Surely just make a call and say "Stuff it. not gonna wear this." He could have worn a different outfit. Or just a robe. His Job is to be in the best possible condition when the bell rings. Ppl paid more than good money to see this fight and excuses like this are unacceptable.

He admitted that the better man won. Just leave it there, go back to the drawing board and come back stronger.

Losing ur 0 isnt a big deal, All the greats lost, an 0 doesnt make you a great fighter. What you show in the face of adversity does.

If you look at Fury's journey. From world champ, to depression and drug and alcohol abuse, to weight gain (to nearly 400lbs). Then to come back from that, lose the weight, get in fighting shape, and still go the distance with Wilder in the 1st fight.

On top of that, to get back up after tasting the most powerful punch in the division probably since Mike Tyson. TWICE!

Now thats a great fighter.

Many were unimpressed with Wilder’s excuse, with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith calling it “the most embarrassing excuse that I have ever heard for a guy losing the fight.” Somehow things escalated when an old video of Wilder resurfaced from the depths of the internet.

A clip of the 34-year-old heavyweight began to circulate in which he talks on the Joe Rogan podcast about how he wears similarly weighted vests in training to prepare him for fights. “We want to activate the fast twitch muscles,” Wilder said. “We do everything with rapid speed, if I’m doing anything that consists of me moving my feet, it’s sprinting.

“Now I wear a 45-pound vest on me as well as doing all my exercises and everything that I do to have that extra weight on me.” There was also footage posted weeks before the fight from BT Sport of Wilder clearly wearing a weighted vest during his training.

Waste of time I reckon. Just get on to the unification bout! now we are going to have to wait till the end of the year probably
I hope they advise him not to do this.

Logically he should just take other fights - which he would probably win - and then use that as a justification for a remach.

Apparently Furys camp asked him not to take the rematch.

Agree he needs to have maybe 2 fights to work on stuff and show he deserves a rematch.

But who to fight? Joseph parker maybe. He won this weekend.
