So I just stumbled across this game and have installed the open beta, which lasts until the 18th. Going to get some play time in on it over the next few days.

Seems to be fairly guild-wars-like. The scope of things to do within the game seems pretty awesome. At least from the videos on the web. I just haven't played it enough just yet to have a verdict on it.

Has a subscription model similar to Eve Online. Where you can buy your game time from other players with in game currency, if you manage to make enough. Otherwise, standard subscription fees apply.

Has anyone else played this/had their eyes on this/already pre-ordered it?

All the things you can do in it = wonderful.

The same, generic done-to-death kill-me-now, please-god-make-it-stop grindfest quest system = urgh.

I really wanted to like it but I really, really hate any MMO that uses (abuses?) that kind of quest system. I don't care what content there is when the foundation of the system that motivates you to get to that content is so ****ing tedious.

Just my humble opinion...

Other than that, great game.

I quite like GW2 quest system, activating when you are in the area and not requiring you to turn it in afterwards.

I know exactly what you mean. Although being able to give in the quests on the run is at least a slight form of mitigation for me. I dont quite know how else they can run an MMORPG though. How do you gain experience and level? How do you tell a tale without at least forcing people to play some kind of mission game.

Perhaps they can come up with something better one day, but right now we have the current formula and nothing has come along that has supplanted it.

I quite enjoy the game. I like the western-in-space theme (reminiscent of FireFly) of it and the narrator cracks me up when I enter a new zone.
I also like the fact that the quests are varied and its not all "kill x creatures and bring me their hides".

I think the thing that's the most tricky, is getting use to the combat, since your combat is directional (you can't hit a target on your left unless your weapon aims that way), which makes it alot harder for the healing class since you have to be able to "see" your team mates in order to heal them.

PS I also enjoy the references they have put in the game, e.g. the cabby that sometimes say "I had an old timer that kept trying to get me up to 88 miles per hour"

Yep, I love the game's attitude set by the narrator. The cartoon feel is also something I like, a little refreshing.

So what characters have you tried? I am currently running a lvl10 Esper doing exploration. I figured Exploration with Beta character would give me the most exposure to the world.

I had a human exile engineer with science up to level 25 and a chua spellslinger with exploration up to level 10. Started an Aurin spellslinger settler about 2 days ago.

My human had a nice little house with lots of decorations and stuff, until they wiped everything for Open Beta :)
