Will consoles lose their disk drives?

Maybe but as mentioned the 3rd world countries will suffer badly.

Imagine trying to pull down an 8 or 16gb game with our bandwidth, just not viable in my opinion.

Disc-less gaming would be great but not in this country, not now anyway.

Console makers will be shooting themselves in the foot, if they ,actually, did this

No they wont. The African market is tiny..
Every other continent has viable internet, the sales lost in Africa would be made up with the cost of productions of discs for the rest of the world.

Lets stop suffering from delusions of grandeur

Its a very "Green" option and I think it could be the way to go.... in the future.

You will most likely see things going the way of wiiware, the games are small and are released in chapters, that way its not that hard to download. Also then you can by a game if you like it... if you don't then don't get the next chapter. Saves you from spending R500 on a game you don't like.

Africa is not the only continent with slow internet. I would say they sell tons of console's in africa.

I have read somewhere that the PSPgo won't have the UMD drive, and all games will need to be downloaded via the playstation store.

This will be another fail, won't work in SA. Unless bandwidth is not a problem for you

Any country with a low internet penetration rate with slow speeds will suffer most, regardless
