Hi guys,

My first post here at mybroadband so be gentle.

If I have a Unotelly DNS set up using the Cape town server (I live in Cape town) would I only use my "local cap".

The way I understand it (probably incorrectly) is that you connect to the cape town server then that server goes out and gets the data you requested and then sends that data back to you from the same server you sent the request to. So in my head that means that I would only ever be using my local cap as the Unotelly DNS is handling all my traffic. Is this correct ? or are there some gaping holes in my theory.

Thanks
:)

Don't think any ISP differentiates between local & int cap since TI ditched it in early 2013.

DNS doesn't work like that, basically the only thing DNS does is gets the IP address for an address you type into your browser. So when you type in google.com, it queries the DNS server and the DNS server tells your browser where to go get that webpage.

So, no it doesn't use local traffic if the servers for the service you're using aren't local. The DNS traffic itself will be local, but this traffic is negligible.

aaah okay,

I thought I had it wrong.
Thanks for your reply.
