I have an old Sony 57cm CRT tv which is connected to a SD decoder. It used to work just dandy. The SDD is now working intermittently and seems it is on its way out. Sadly.

If I take it in, chances are that MC will want to flog something HD on me. As we record stuff for the kids, the usual HD decoder makes no sense.

Will the CRT (which is still working well) display channels, albeit not in HD, or not? Anyone got any experience either way?

Many thanks.

I already have 2 other tv's in the house. Just don't want to upgrade this CRT just yet. So I guess I will be that dinosaur a while yet :D:p

Thanks for the feedback, ScottulusMaximus :)

Off-topic, but CRT's are still very relevant when gaming on vintage/retro consoles.
That's mainly the reason why I've kept a couple of the behemoths around for all this time. :D

Yes it will work over RCA or RF. Just makes sure that the decoder is set to PAL I, and if nec pick a lower UHF channel number than the default 63. make sure the TV is set to Sytem PAL I as well.

The Explora defaults to PAL B/G. After resetting it allow the decoder to operate for about 15 minutes and then reboot to ensure it has saved the new setting as some of them tend go back to default if rebooted before the 15 minutes up.

Thank you for this - you may well have saved me a bit of stress there :)
