Will GPU prices come down even more in SA?

Depends on pricing of the new offerings from AMD and Nvidia though? Once the new range is out and actually available, so likely only sometime in Q1 2023 for us and once the 4070 is there to push the likes of the older competing cards down in price. Disclaimer: I have not finished watching the Paul's Hardware vid to the end yet.

Over the years I haven't really noticed big price drops when a new range gets released, the old stuff stays about the same. We're not like the US in this regard unfortunately.

Those aren't going to be cheap, plus we have the rand and dollar, plus the waiting game. If you need to upgrade now, why wait till 3 maybe 4 months time for a possible price reduction when the prices are already far better than they were even 4 months ago, plus you get to use it now.
If I had waited with my old 2060 super for the 40 series to come out I would still be waiting. Instead I managed to get a 3070ti for 11499, the cheapest it has been for a long time and I've had it for 3 or so months now being able to get 100 plus fps in games on 1440p.
So why wait for the possible drop in months time if you can get it now, by the time the 40 series drops I would've had almost a year out of my card.
Same as when I went for the 5600 upgrade, instead of waiting for the 7000 series to drop, if I did I would have needed a new motherboard, new ram and new chip which would be vastly more expensive.
I hear you. Certainly what some of these youtubers were saying a month back is in the back of my mind where they speculated that an rtx 4070 might have an MSRP of $600. But the latest vid from JayzTwoCents sounds like Nvidia might be priming the market for more expensive 40 series cards as you say, perhaps a $1000 rtx 4080 so that they can still sell the high-end 30 series cards at current pricing. Many factors to consider and it all depends on how in need one is of the new gfx card and as many have said, factor in high FPS gaming time lost if waiting.

edit: Nevermind the fact that we never actually see MSRP pricing in dollar terms over here, our pricing is more in line with UK pricing. From what I have seen an $800 card in the states is an £800 card in the UK.

Check the hardware bargains thread, it gets you a 3090 Ti and change :D

I just prefer to not look at the prices at this stage :X3:
Someone actually tried to buy it from me for R32k on carbonite, because they really wanted a FHR and I said no.
It's a Gaming Trio Z
But ah, to be honest, even with a 3090 ti, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
(slight cope lol)

And you've been enjoying it for 17 months though?
This is true, I managed to snap one up when everyone was buying them for mining, so i was just happy to be able to game.

RTX is kinda a gimmick imo, I tried it in Cyberpunk and Control and I was like 'Ah i guess its ok'.

Just let me play Warhammer 2/3 on ultra and im happy.

Would like some opinions from those who know more about the PC hardware market than myself.

Some serious bargains to be had already eg:
  • RX 6800 for R 10 000
  • RX 6750 XT for R 9 000
  • RTX 3070 for R10 000
There's more but this is just the range I'm looking in.

Thoughts?

Yes, the 3080 will reach sub R10K levels. Sure, the 5000 series might be out by then, but it will drop.
