Yep, 32bit OS limitation. Only way to use/see all available Ram is to switch to 64bit OS.

3.5 GB is way better than 2GB - and the new RAM is probably lower latency than the old stuff.

So you should still be in a bettr position

yup... 32-bit OS can only recognise up to 3.5gb.
you can change to a 64-bit OS but you need compliant hardware and would have to reinstall your OS

The RC isn't out yet, only random builds, but it will be soon.

Also the expiry date is early 2010 so I wouldn't worry, and there will be patches make it last longer but you can download the final by then.
