If I can get 2 gigs from Cell C at 7.2MBps for the same price Iburst offers 1 Gig @ 1MBps I can see them losing customers quickly as CellC's coverage grows. So Mr Iburst... Any news/views on what iburst may respond with? or if they will respond?

I'm actually considering taking the Cellc 21mbs offer. I'm willing to fork out R50 more per month to have 21x the theoretical speed AND an extra 3gb of data. The only thing helping iburst's case here is the fact that you don't need to pay them your yearly fees upfront.

Am I right in saying that you'll be able to blow the whole 5GB cap in +-32minutes @ 21mbs?

If you download a 5 gigs worth(a lot of large files etc.) you could, but if you continue to surf as you do on iburst(browsing, gaming, occasional DL's etc.) The 5gigs should last. Also Ibursts new CEO seems to be a useless so I wouldn't count on a response.

End of Iburst

This may be the beginning of the end for Iburst. Sadly there packages and speed are falling way behind, unless they come up with something really good quickly. I am seriously considering moving my account and think the time has come

Lol @ Keeper. But seriously guys, as keen as I am over this Cell C development, I'd wait a good few months yet for them to get their network up and stabilised, else I can pretty much guarantee that the only thing that will change is that you'll all be throwing
frothies in the Cell C forum instead of in the iBurst one...

My biggest concern is latency and not outright bandwith, if I can be certain of decent letancy I would not mind getting one of those cell c contracts

Why? If we want an answer from top management, we are more likely to get it through you than your twitter guy...

If cellc are able to maintain a decent network, this could quite well be the end of iburst i do agree. Cellc's offering is pretty much an ADSL replacement in ways, as it is cheap and will be taken by many people who cant get access to adsl due to their exchanges etc. Iburst is the same story - An alternative to ADSL in many ways. If CellC pull this off, many people will have no problems with jumping ship.

iBurst are going to get a big GF.A if CellC's coverage and speeds are decent in our area.

At the low end of things -at home - I could not go to Telkom because of Voice+Adsl line cost + bandwidth that priced it out of my range. Even 56K dialup incurs basic costs+dialup time.

I would have been on iburst at home but the device cost is way to expensive for what I would be getting back, unless I could commit to the 128K as well. I have been to iburst site numerous times looking at the device cost+subscription+bandwidth and deciding against it. CellC providing the R1499 package with hardware is nearly a throwaway price in that nowhere else is 2GB/month available at less than R250. I guess I will tolerate some network saturation at this price as well, as long as I get my money's worth at the end of the month.

I would like to see Telkom suffer mainly as they have been the number one blood suckers that have made internet unaffordable for the masses.

Lets hope so. Subjecting consumers to those types of "service" levels should be made criminal.

Cell C has really gone & done it now, like MWEB did with the ADSL. Ahhh, I foresee good times a head. :)

Their response...

Me: Do you feel that cellc's new, cheap and fast package is a threat? Will you respond or just potentially lose clients?

Iburst: of course we always try to respond to changes in the industry. Thanks!

Now we just have to see when this response will come, and what it will be. If it does indeed happen

My crystal ball predicts

It will take them days, or even weeks to reply. Hoping that the competition is just bluffing for attention, seeing that they're the only cellular company that never dived into the 3G pool before... With a sudden announcement of after hours uncapped for free for 3GB packages and up. To see if that will satisfy we needy customers... And In my opinion, will fall flat on its face, We don't want Free cap.. WE WANT BETTER GOD DAMNED SPEEDS!!!

Everybody around us is like getting faster and faster... Where we just get cheap booster prices and packages upgrades for mahala... GOT TO LOVE IT! LOL ....sigh...

Cheaper bundles are the way to go.Faster speeds means youll use up more of your data quicker and end up with less than if you downloaded slower
