Will it be easy to convert? Telkom --> Neotel

Just a quick question, decided not to phone and make a fuss. Rather just ask all you intelligent MyAdsl people :)

Anyway Im just wondering if anyone can provide insight on how simple the process would be to convert from a Telkom line to a Neotel line once available?? Hopefully it would be just a matter of one phonecall :)

Just asking because I dont have dsl at the moment and Im thinking of installing a line on my side of the property. The other guy cant pay his bills :( so no more sharing. Im really impatient and need dsl now!!! :p

It may seem like a simple question but just want to be reassured. Their FAQs dont seem clear on this.
 
Well I don't know depends on if the current copper cables will be seen as a national asset (What Telkom will protest) Wanting to go to Neotel I don't know I saw how they(Transtel) work in 1994 at a PABX in Capital Park the cable was joint with yellow electrician tape and they placed a R1000 000 PABX on rusted support because the room flooded from time to time The room was also dirty and eating in the room was allowed in fact I saw someone put his coke can op top a selector. I will rather play with the devil than Telkom but Neotel notel

I'm thinking telkom will make it as complicated as they can get away with.

Still - when will Neotel have a viable service?
 
they say 1st June will be first for residents in selected areas but we all know what saying does in that industry. :(
 
Seems Neotel will only offer a wireless CDMA2000 service for their residential broadband rollout. I think we will need to see Local Loop Unbundling for Neotel to offer ADSL...

... and I don't see that happening anytime this decade. AFAIK the DOC are busy thinking about discussing the setting up of a committee that will look into the feesibility of a steering committee that will ponder the possibility of unblundering the local loop some time in the imminent future. But don't hold your breath.

So no, don't expect ADSL from Neotel anytime soon.

Would you WANT to convert?

From recent articles it sounds like Neotel might not be offering what the hype promised.
Perhaps at the end of the day, I might stay with Telkom just to bypass the hassle of moving over to Neotel who might just offer the same (or worse) service - albeit for R5 less.
 
Early adopters always get screwed. I'll wait for NeoTel rev2 before I decide. :)
 
My biggest concern is the fact that Telkom owns SAT3 or most of it as far as Im aware. Therefore they have total control. And by the sounds of it they will probably out bid most players for the EASSy cable if it ever arrives. If that ever happens we are screwed :( chances of them actually agreeing on equal shares to the EASSy cable are probably null.

Therefore there is simply no hope for neotel.

NeoTel's parent company VSNL is possibly the largest shareholder in SAT3 - Telkom has the landing rights for SA and is the managing shareholder.
 
hmmmmmmm, thats an interesting dilemma. Hope some other overseas company sues Telkom for all its worth so thaty they start selling their shares :) he he
