Anyway my situation is like this, a family member(my sister) almost used up our cap at home.
We have saix/ffg as a isp (dont ask me what ffg stands for I have NO idea).
My question is: If I were to buy a prepaid ADSL package from webafrica, would I be able to use it?

I know its kinda of a fail topic but my networking/internet brain cells have died of anger and I cant think straight.

yes you will ,so long as your router isn't locked you can simply buy a prepaid voucher, punch in the user name and password into your router (make sure you keep the original details so you can use that account again in the new month when it is usable again)

alternatively

set your router into bridged mode and create PPPOE connections for each isp account, that way she can have her own bandwidth to use and you can have yours, problem solved :D

That was what I was getting at, but if the whole family uses the internet, whe will have to create PPPoE connections on all the pcs, assuming they have more than one...

Come to think of it, if ImNotslow gave us more info, we could give him a better answer. :D

And this is the method I prefer, because you also get to keep the account info on your pc and not in your router, as a lot of hackers are targeting people's routers nowadays and they could steal your account info from it.

i have about 5 pc's that use the internet at home and they all have PPPOE connections on them, it takes 30 seconds to create so it really makes no difference how many people he has using the internet IMO.

and in bridged mode its also safer, you aren't permantly exposed to the net and only connect when you need to.

edit: more info would be useful and help us give a better solution to your problem, but we can't expect noobs to know exactly what info we need :D and i say noob in a respectful way cause we all gotta start somewhere

You do however lose the protection of the router firewall and have to rely on software.

yeah, but how good are the firewalls that routers have anyway, but you are right, it is the only real disadvantage but the advantage of being able to control your ISP accounts and have multiple accounts greatly outways the disadvatage of having to use a software based firewall

PPPoE connections are useful when you have more than one ISP account, but the "always on" option does have it's advantage as well, sometime.

Thanks for all the responses people.
My whole family shares our connection with only a 3gb cap with NO local(yeah I know it sucks).
I have kaspersky IS 2009, we have 4 PC's and I play warcraft 3 tft online local.
One of my concerns with PPPoE and or bridging is my loss of connection during the game(you can get punished and even an account lock for lagging out, disconnection, happens to me sometimes).
O and our router is not locked.
I HATE Zone Alarm with a passion, used to use Online armor or comodo both never gave me any trouble.
There I gave a short answer to every post..I think.
Thanks for letting me know about the prepaid package.
Feel free to reply with suggestions.

you won't have any any more disconnect problems than normal by using the windows PPPOE when compared to letting the router do the PPPOE authentication.

i get disconnected at least once a day with my PPPoE connections.:(

then there is probably a problem with your line, post SNR and line attenuation stats for people to have a look at, you might be very far away from the exchange and your line quality might not be the greatest
