Hi again guys....

Once again I need to hear the opinions of the boffins.

I got hold of a very gpu (gtx460 oc'd) and of course I needed a psu to power it and my whole pc. I got a Thermaltake Litepower 430w in my machine now which powers my pc up and gpu where as with my previous psu my pc didn't even go on.

Now my question is this: Is this psu strong enough to power my pc and components for years to come?

My pc consists of the following:
MB= msi ka780gm2
Cpu= Athlon II x2 245 2.9ghz
Ram= 2 sticks (4gigs ddr2 800)
HDD= 1x 160gig
2x 500gig
1x 2Tb (all sata drives)
Fans= front is 80mm
rear is 80mm with led
DVD-rw combo
Front fan controller/temp monitor with hdd cooler
GPU= gtx460 1gig gddr5 oc'd

Have the four rear usb ports filled with printer, keyboard, mouse, game pad.

That's bout it I think. So yeah, will this psu suffice or do I have to go bigger. If yes then how big actually. Money is a scarcity but hey I don't want my baby to suffer.....

I would say not a problem, if TT are as good as they say...a corsair at 430w would we more than suffice

What are the amp ratings and loads for the psu...not the max load

Ok Nameite....
This is what it shows
+3.3v/20A/0.5A
+5V/12A/0.3A (first two at 125w)
+12V1/20A/1A
+12V2/20A/1A
-12V/0.3A/0A
+5VSB/2A/0A (all at 350w)
(max at 430w)

I dunno what it all means but that's what it says. I'm just scared coz someone told me the psu ain't strong enough and it'll cause either my hdd's or some other hardware to also sustain damage.

Thanx for help guys

Ps: I've used the psu calculater and gives me rating of 385w on one site and 418w on another. Either way does that mean I must look at the normal output on a psu or the max? Seeing as my psu is a 430w does it mean it is safe to use it

The Calculator is just an estimate based on Theoretical Maximum power draw of stock products.
And also does not take into account what will happen when you PSU is running at 40deg C, which heavily decreases the performance of the PSU.

The Litepower can not even give you 430Watt for one second.

The Litepower is rated at Peak power not continuous power, meaning than it will only go over 350Watts when it is needed for a handfull of seconds.

I bet that the GPU is the culprete pulling your PSU dead.

The Corsair CX430 is rated on continous and will be able to deliver enough power for the Card eventhough it is only a 430Watt PSU but has 28Amps available for the 12V rail.
I would recommend atleast a 500Watt Corsair PSU.
All the Reviews i have read of the GTX 460 all say that you require atleast a 500Watt PSU, or atleast 24A per 12V rail for the GPU.

I would recommend that you test your system on a Corsair PSU from a friend and you will notice a difference.

OK then.....

Thanx for the replies anyway. So was gaming last night and BOOOOOOOM.....

The blue screen appears :(
I took out the gpu and psu and am using my old gpu and psu so long. I guess I will have to get a 750w and up psu which should then be more than enough for my system. I just hope the gpu hasn't sustained any damage.

Well... That's that

Dude. It's not wattage that matters. You can get a quality 550Watt power supply that is better than a crap 750watt.

Get a corsair, Antec or Cooler master GX power supply. 550 watts will be more than fine for you.

Stay away from Coolermaster GX series, really not good PSU's computers only will tell you that they have had tons of returns.

Corsair, Antec, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling and Silverstone PSU's are good.
