Does anyone know if its Telkom policy to replace stolen cables? I depend on my landline in a rural area, 300m was stolen. Who can I talk to (headoffice?) to get it replaced SOON and work a miracle?
Apart from reporting the problem to Telkom I don't think there is much you can do. If you see a Telkom van in you area, go talk to the technician, you wil get much more info from them than the call centre can ever give.
It is not in Telkom's budget to replace stolen cables in our area...plenty of farmers are without telecoms, cell phone coms etc and are looking into satellite coms which is double the cost of normal telecoms.
You never know. I've heard that Telkom has stopped replacing cables after a few incidents, but in my area they have replaced cables up to 7 times in one year. I saw a report that a technician filed that said that it is the 16th incident. That was about 2 incidents ago. And even that number seems a bit optimistic. I think its somewhere in the 20's
I see the technicians more than I would like to and speak to them when I can. They share our frustration, but management in Telkom don't want to approve the funding or listen to their recommendations. All valid recommendations that will save millions a year and be a massive upgrade for the end users. And this is just one area.
I just thought that the lady ceo would be more sympathetic this time. I will just haveto harrass the managers that replaced them a few years ago (3km) but I'm on my own now, had a B&B using them last time.
It depends on the revenue ratio to the cost of the cables and work. If it a large industrial park, or somewhere that generates, say R 200k a month in revenue, obviously they will try harder. But a few farmers maybe spending between R5k a month, it is not economically feasible.
