Will telkom upgrade my area?

So...

To cut a long story short, I have a 1mb line (sort of stable - when i turn on a device plugged into my router, it drops, but it comes back and gets stable), and I want a 4mb line.

When I moved here over a year ago, I applied for a 4mb line, and they told me that I cant have that because Im too far from the exchange, but they should be upgrading it over time...

The seasons have changed 5 times since then, and I dont think they have upgraded it...

What action can I take to get this done? If any? Has anyone else had this issue..
Its not like I live in the sticks, I live in Benoni, Farrarmere... (okay, hold the Benoni jokes for second please and focus).

I hear you bud.. When i moved in, they said my line can only handle 384, i told them to goto hell... upto 1meg download, and 512 upload. BUT, the line drops when i plug in a new device.. frustrating...

Same here, moved in here 4 years ago and when i got 4 megs line it didn't work.. so when i phoned telkom they told me that the whole area i am in has old phone lines that can only support 384... im so pissed about this and i have been for 4 years!!!!! (the speed isn't stable either, it goes from 1kbs to 20kbs and and a lucky day up to 30kbs....) They also said that they cant fix it cus the area is to big and it would cost to much... i will never buy a house (rather let my dad buy a house) without looking at the ADSL line speed first... (there are loads of home businesses around this area that needs fast internet, but you know telkom? if they say it costs to much it means they will NEVER fix it for you and for me i am afraid)
At the moment 4megs is my dream!!! since the new uncapped and unshaped is released... (maybe they will do something after this sokker crap?)

i spoke to a telkom techi a while back, and he said they need to put a dslam in my area, and that will solve the problem... there is a whole suburb that cant get adsl at all because the exchange is too far. my inlaws had it for a week before they cancelled their contract due to the line dropping all the time...

oh well... we just gotta wait and see...

i feel u guys pain my area is the old daspoort area so now we are still running paper lines so whenever it rains or those lines get a drop of water bye bye internet at least i can run 4mb speeds but with drops now and then and them pulling new cables i asked the techie wat are the chances of a new line they say fat chance.so i am stuck but i dnt give up i will find a way to get a new line here
