Will Top Tv show new content soon?

I have been watching my Top Tv channels i am happy with the music and the discovery and crime investigation but they really need to start playing some newer movies as we do have colour tv's and have no need to watch black and white movies one channel for black and white movies is fine but i have seen a few over the weekend. So i cant wait for them to start there new content as i am a great supporter of Top Tv.:)
 
They Most likely will not, i think for their price range you will most likely get etv like movies
 
Just remember TopTV is NOT a replacement for DStv but rather more choice for peeps that have just got SABC 1,2,3 & eTV. Don't expect much soon.

I dont agree with this statement. TopTV is surely meant to be a replacement for DSTV for people especially who dont need sport channels....(like me!)
If only DSTV could offer a sport-free bouquet, then I'm sure the price will be half of the premium subs which is close to that of TopTV.


So if TopTV is not buying expensive sports rights, then they can offer better general entertainment content.
If they dont buck up, then they will start bleeding customers like me after 6 months....especially if Multichoice comes to the party by then.

adsl3g , stating that TTV is only for the folks who have nothing besides free-to-air TV is a gross underestimation of what TTV has to offer. Clearly you are unaware of the number of people on these forums alone, that have ditched DSTV in favour of TTV. Sure TTV offers scaled down packages for those on tighter budgets, but so does DSTV and even TTV's smaller packages appear to offer better value & content than DSTV. That's undeniablr competition there.
The differentiating factor as pointed out by tRon is sport - and according to TTV research 60% of people don't care about sport (...accurate or not, I know many people like myself who don't!)
They both cover all the other genres using different providers, but the content seems to be very similar.
IMO, TTV has a better offering than DSTV's Premium package in the foll areas: music video channels (very comprehensive range catering for all tastes, even classical, rock, etc), news (missing only ETV News Channel), cultural channels (BET, RTPi, Zee), and even Christian religious channels.
DSTV has the upperhand in Sport, Movies, and offer something for the other religious groups too.

So yes, TTV is definitely an alternative to DSTV, but needs to strengthen their movie offerings especially (I assume the non-sport lovers are avid movie watchers). We understand this as being due to launch limitations, and expect it to be rectified within the next few months .....or else....!
 
All ok i guess they will have to pull there socks at some time to keep the customers active and yes i took TTV just so that i could have a bit more than SABC
which has absolute nothing to show but will give TTV time till year end to produce atleast mid class action.
 
@Saman - we will see what comes out in the next few months - I for one am not going to can my DStv in favour of TTv atm based purely on content - and I am not a sports fan either. The series' that are showing are ancient (luv the double bill of The Simpsons) - the movies are B & W - Got really caught out on TITANIC that was showing - its the 19 50's version.

But lets see what happens
 
I think the problem with Top TV is they are having to compete with DStv which bought up all the good shows, so they really have to wait for seconds. But with all the new pilots in the US it just means that this time Top Tv has a chance to compete with DStv for a bidding war over the new programs. First Come First Serve. The same will go for thie films in the future. Secondly it all depends on how Top Tv wants to compete with DStv, do they want to buy shows as they come on in US? Are they in that affordability range?
 
TTV have substantial financial backing and plan to run at a loss for sometime before their subscriber numbers hit the 300 000 break-even point. But this is anticipated, so I don't think affordability is the issue right now. In fact, by their own admission, they were pleasantly surprised by the relatively fast uptake of subscribers which have by far exceeded their intial expectations.
Of course costs will have to be managed in this rollout phase, while their subscriber numbers are still relatively low. Beyond 300 000, we have 10million households with TV in SA, so the potential is huge....!
Bear in mind also, that TTV only appear 'cheap' to us South Africans who have gotten accoustomed to the artifically inflated pricing of Multichoice's monopoly. TTV prices are in line with what is being charged by other pay-TV operators overseas who offer decent programming content.

You got me there ... we are so used to paying above average prices ... I'm giving Top TV another 6 months before I sign up. Hopefully most kinks would have been worked out by then.

The magic number for TTV is 230 000. Thats the amount of subscribers they need in order to break even. I think TTV will offer new content after they reach this point. I would say expect new content around the end of the year or start of next year.
 
I currently have both, DSTV and TTV installed, looking to cut off DSTV soon after the world cup, watching Soccer in SD for me is not Ayoba. On a side note does anyone have an idea how to sort out remote clash? my TTV remote for some reason clashes with my Altec Lansing sound system.

You might as well, seeing as you already forked out so much dosh for a DSTV HD setup. I'm usually an early adopter, but thankfully this time I managed to restrain myself from DSTV HD, and I'm glad I did. Of course, when TTV eventually launch HD, I may not be so disciplined...
