Will you buy used Macbook Pro?

Will you buy a year old Macbook Pro 15in for 50% of the new price, its in seemingly fine condition. What can go wrong? I don't have money for a new one and my old Macbook Pro is four years old.

Should be okay... Check the casing for dents and scratches 'tho. Check the screen, there might be dead pixles and patches... You should also check if it runs off the battery, the speakers, the keyboard, the DVD drive and perhaps even the USB ports... run a couple of apps too. If everything works you'll be set. ;)

I did. Two years ago. It was a year old, in excellent nic, and I knew the seller (a colleague) to take good care of his stuff. I still have it, it's taken an survived all the abuse I threw at it. And right now I'm thinking, with an SSD in it, it will last me another two years before it become my mum's entry into the Mac world when the files from the 7DmkII or 5DmkIII finally become too large for this one to handle.
 
On the other hand, my manager bought a MBP, exactly the same model as mine, from another colleague, who is know to (and was open and honest) about abusing his hardware quite heavily. It was visibly in bad shape, but working fine. This was shortly before I bought mine, and except for the less-than-stellar appearance, his is still running nicely.
 
I have bought several Mac laptops 2nd hand. They can hold up very well.

The nice thing with MBP's are that dents in the metal chassis will tell you immediately if it's been dropped or not. Check for the alignment of the screen and the body which another sign that it may have been dropped. It's the first thing that they report when I have my machine in at the Genius Bar.
 
got my 2nd hand MBP 17 for exactly a week....first time to Mac...running Mac OS X Lion GM....amazing....
