WiMax in Honeydew

Is there coverage in Helderkruin/Wilro Park? I'm still having DSL problems with line theft and am considering WIMAX as an alternative. I'm assuming there must be a tower on the Roodekrans doreen hill? At least I hope so!

So it's right next to Ferreiras (Lazer Park) on Beyers Naude.

well, i need to get on my roof and check for line of sight. im pretty sure that i can see that tower from my roof. i thought that if i could see it i could approach telkom in a different way as they are telling me there is no wimax coverage in that area.

also, they said there should be coverage at the end of july. if you work for telkom, do you perhaps know if they are in the process of installing a new tower in that area or did the lady (Lerina, think she is from the CEO's office or something) BS me?
 
Why is there WiMax in Honeydew if you can get DSL there afaik?

I'm in Honeydew and would not mind trying WiMax but I obviously can't as there are Telkom lines all over the place. Isn't it you can only get WiMax if you can't get DSL?
 
well, honeydew is pretty big. where i am there is no ADSL lines and as per Telkom, no plans to install miniDSLAMs in the near future. This is for my whole area and some areas around me.

What is your address - if you follow the threads here you will see that LOS is not really the criterion on which this is always based.

Do you have a GPS if so send me the Lat & long and I will see if I can give you any help.

The lat and long of the Tower is 26.04.35.1 E27.55.23.9 - with your GPS you can get a distance to the tower and also a relative bearing. That will help me

Telkom is not installing copper in that area at the moment - so at this time the option is Wimax - you just have to insist - go to the nearest Telkom Direct shop and apply - they will tell you that you have to aply for ADSL - or a line - make them mark the app (or do it yourself in BIG BOLD LETTERS) and get an orde number and a ref. Then see if you can get hold of someone in Pretoria and escalate the matter.

This is no garantee that you will get a signal but so far the area seems to yield good results. Depending where you are there are also the Bryanston and the Aasvoelkop Towers

How do you know this? Copper in my area (Wilro Park) was stolen 2 months ago and is yet to be replaced. I am thus without a phone. Any idea when they might fix this? How do I go about applying for WiMax?
 
My in-laws company is run from the muldersdrift area... the telephone lines have been stolen 2 or 3 times in the last year or so, and they even tried to put up their own telephone lines to the exchange.... which were also stolen the next day.. (they do PABX's)..

Telkom has no plans to replace the copper at this stage but are gonna install a microwave/wimax system.. apparently starting May... so far its mid may and nothing has happened yet...

If you had ADSL then tell / ask Telkom that you need internet and you want Wimax. Cables in that area are no going to be installed in a hurry due to the high rate of theft
