Guys,

Sorry for this, I know it is probably somewhere in this forum but I am REALLY busy & I don't have time to go through everything.

Just 1 or 2 n00b questions.

1) How is the signal in the Sunninghill area? (near Chilli Lane)

Why I am asking is that the coverage maps are NOT always correct

2) What AVERAGE download & upload speeds do people in that area (or anyone) get?

3) Does the weather influence the speeds at all? (rain & thunder)

4) Do you gents recommend this service

Thanks & sorry again

My apologies, my questions are based on the fact that I am interested in the 512k line.

:)

Firstly, welcome to MyBB.

Secondly, that is 4 questions... :D

I have the 512 WiMax from Telkom. 60kb/s download and 30kb/s upload.
Weather doesn't influence anything.

Any WiMax user will recommend the services, cause it is reliable and cheap and the latencies isn't that much higher than ADSL. The only thing is, there is only one speed to choose/not choose from. Iburps' WiMax is tooooooo expensive.

Thanks Master Sharkbait.....

And for Gaming online (PS3).....

Sorry, double post....

That's probably a dumb question to ask. I don't think ANYTHING wireless is great for gaming.

You are able to use it for online gaming. It should work for your PS3 as well, I don't have one, so I never tested it, but since you don't have a router, you will create a PPPoE connection on your pc, and use ICS. I have connected a PS3 to a network for one of my friends before, but he was using 3G and just wanted to surf the web from his PS3.

And please don't compare WiMax to wireless, cause I don't know how they do it, but it is a lot better than wireless and like I said, the latencies is much lower than any other wireless options. Also note that WiMax is only a last mile alternative to ADSL to the telkom exchange.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, but it is point to point. My knowledge isn't so good on the wireless topologies, but most people think 3G when they say wireless and it ain't the same as that...

WiMax is the wireless local loop, whereas ADSL is the wired local loop. WiMax has a max theoretical speed of 70Mbps and has a max range of around 50km.. it is line of site so you need to be on a very flat spot of earth to get it right at that distance :) WiMax is not there to replace 3G, it's a low latency broadband connection designed initially for rural areas where there weren't any copper cabling, but for high density areas (like our suburbs) it is a good alternative to Telkom and their lack of planning/ports.

Just wish we could get higher than 512kbps (and that Telkom will let me know when they are going to install my antennas)

Actually WIMAX is brilliant for gaming, I play AA online with low latency's. As low as friends with ADSL. and more constant I think. Like SharkBait said this service is very good, nothing affects it. Not even the huge winter storms we had here in CT. So now its up to you to make the decision to apply or not:D;)
