WiMax Router

Don't know about WiMax routers but don't you need to set it in bridged mode for a Windows Dial-up to work?

Otherwise it's just going to use whatever default username and password you have on the router settings and if that is blank well then there is no Internet :p

With WiMax there is no ¨router¨ so either provide your own broadband router or do pppoe from the PC.

The router in the Telkom equipment only provides a pppoe to pppoa bridge.

Can anyone suggest a broadband router that i can use to share the connection with the other pc's in my house?

thanks

Dont mess around in the cpe to much as it could require the installer company to come out to resetup the device. i know there is a telnet script that can config a regular Billion 7401vgp to make pppoe connections via one of its lan ports.

Hi Guys

i need your opinion. im currently looking at getting a dlink di-804hv/e http://www.dlink.co.za/pdf/di-804hv.pdf router (if and when telkom installs my wimax).

What is your opinion of this device? it has a build in vpn server which i think is a nice feature to have. supports setting up of alg's, and all the other bells and whistles.

any comments will be much appreciated.

ps: i can get them for r520 ex vat so its not too pricey either.

It's a kewl device. Then again I don't know anything about it :) But you do get free 24/7 support if you buy it - At least it's not a Cisco 837.,..with it's dreaded CRWS,.omw what a load of crap. Slowest web interface i've ever worked on.

Does anyone know if you can setup routing on the CPE? Ie for hosting online games?

Also does the CPE allow hairpin connections? ie u host a game online and mates on ur lan can also join ?

Didn't they leave an instruction booklet with you:confused:
You do not have to configure anything on the Wimax unit - only PPOe on your computer or router

Hi

Sorry, can't help you. But when you've figured it out, please let us know. They came to install the WiMax equipment at my house yesterday. But i don't have a clue how to configure it or what to do next.

Also does anybody know if it is possible to use an existing adsl account?

cheers!

Yes without question - get the linksys unit either the G version is you want to save some money ot the 150 N

Fantastic device and works well with Wimax

Guys,

Don't mess with the device - you don't need to just follow the Instructions in the booklet that they leave behind - if you can do that call support on the 08xxx help number - the techies there are goo - somtime a little off but good.

Cool ;) I've never used a Wimax router before, so I'm glad you guys got sorted.

Ciao

Ok so, i've setup a connection with a broadband router and it works.. and I've setup a connection on linux plugged directly into the wimax unit... but i'm having trouble with 2-way traffic.
I've used a d-link and a netgear broadband router but they both block any incoming traffic from the WAN to LAN. So i plugged the machine directly into the wimax with suse 8 and setup a connection through yast and it works 2-way but hangs the system once logged in to the LAN server from the WAN. if anyone understands me...
I work with a few VPN networks^_^

If you don't want to block traffic from the wan to your linux pc on the lan make it the DMZ.

think i tried that but the routers had a firewall rule blocking incoming traffic which i couldn't delete. Even making an "allow all" rule didnt help

ok problem solved :) i used an IP Time broadband router which allowed the traffic to flow both ways :D i would think brands like netgear or dlink would work better, clearly not..

I bought a Linksys WRT54GS yesterday for R500, brand Spanking new. This hot Spain chick sold it to me, it was still wrapped in plastic, works great :)
