i am planning on getting Wimax , aparently im in range of a tower , im planning on playing WoW on it , as a hunter ( Nakedhousee ) on dragonblight , im currently in sunwell and well , the DC's im getting with my ADSL ( 7.7 KM from exchange ) is absolutely unplayable ... DC's on felmyst an stuff is HORRIBE :(

how are your connections with wimax ? stable ? latency ? in wind or rain ? thunder storms ? quick run down if you can

also if some1 who plays wow an has wimax can add me on MSN id apreciate it

[email protected] ( Spare email )

thank you!

all input is appreciated

oh :) thanks , any chance of a average wow ping in various areas ? :) looks promising

from what i've seen (i've never used wimax myself) WIMAX entry latency is around 40-50ms while dsl is 8-16ms.. call 0800 375 375 and ask them to lower your sync rate. keep lowering it until the losses in sync stop. If you need to go below 512K then it will probably be more practical to get WIMAX

What is your latency like on the ADSL? If your ADSL sux, then I don't think the WiMax will be any beter.

Why not? They're completely seperate last-mile technologies -- obviously if you're having problems with your connection you should first try resolve them, and if you can't then seek better alternatives

@ fragtion, Soz, but I didn't know the max lenght for ADSL's last mile is 5.5km. I will recomend WiMax as well, cause the max distance is 30km.

As far as I'm aware, a WIMAX tower isn't necessarily at the same place as your ADSL's DSLAM, which you seem to be assuming; but yeah even if it were, it does have further range anyway

Well, if I'm lucky I will have Wimax Monday morning. I do hope that the latency will be good for playing COD4.

No, I know they aren't, but he started by saying that he is 7.7km from the dslam and I didn't know the max range was 5.5km. He explained it to me last night.

well , ty for the input , after hours on the phone i have decided to give wimax a try , cant be anyworse than ADSL , from what telkom have told me it is more stable considering my distance from my exchange.
