Hi Peeps!

I would like to know what you think about Win 2000 Pro edition, a lot of peeps will still remember using this in your MCSD/MCSA projects back in the days and there are still companies using this OS, aren't there any other OS that can be used?

Do you think that win 2000 pro can still be used for small applications (like audio streaming/recording)?

Thx!

I think it's time for you to upgrade dude. I'm not sure whether newer audio streaming and recording software will run on windows 2000. Depends on their dependencies. Plus, I would imagine that Windows 2000 is as secure as Microsoft's later offerings. If you don't have the means to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, try install ubuntu. There are plenty of pieces of open source software that should do the trick.

Windows 2000 was a wonderful OS that never got the attention it deserved, and after XP came out it all but faded away on the desktop. That being said, all forms of support for 2000 will be ending in June/July this year, so it will pretty insecure to use on the internet. On an internal LAN, it can still live on I think.

Hi,

The reason i want to use win 2000 professional is that it requires low resources, as for ubuntu, hey, there i get confused. I have treid several linux OS, but the streaming software that are freely available from ubuntu partners does not work, there are a lot of extras and patches that needs to be downloaded, in the end the system requirements on the ubuntu server are then much higher than win 2000 professional requirements. I am looking for a system than requires low resources but also secure. I think teh best will be to trail and error and see what goes and what is needed for streaming audio.

Thx! and have a "Castle" weekend.
