win 7 64bit - memory usage

Just booting up my laptop and using taskmanager says it's already using 1.4 gig's of ram.
I mean WTF? Is this normal?

My pc idles around 1GB, that's why I have 3 installed, so nothing new here?

nkpza you might have a few unnecessary programs starting up when your Windows boots, hence the elevated ram usage. ;)
 
Are you talking about memory that's been cached, because then it's meant to try and use as much of your ram as possible. But 1.4Gb is possible normally, it's probably no real problem. With how much RAM we have, it hardly matters these days. RAM gets freed up as you need it, doubt you'll really be running out.
