Win 7 - Connecting Via Wan Miniport

Sup all

Had this problem for ages now and its really irritating. I have multiple accounts so I connect to the internet via my and I go to retry a good couple of times before it actually connects. Sometimes it hangs on Connecting Via Wan Miniport.

I had Avast installed and uninstalled that and installed Zonealarm. Still doing it.

Uninstalled the Nvidia NIC drivers and used the Win 7 ones. Still doing it.

Changed network cables and ports on the router.

Been doing it on both my ADSL Modem now.

Please help guys.
 
Ensure that PPPoE Passthrough/PPPoE Relaying is switched on. If its not switched on, you won't be able to dial additional accounts from other devices (like your PC).
 
It's a win 7 thing. My old vista install was pretty much the same. I get the same problem on both my win 7 machines. Particularly after just disconnecting from one account and attempting an immediate reconnection to another. I live with it. I'm guessing it's MS's "improved" networking stack.
 
Grouter reminded me... there are registry settings that limit the maximum amount of concurrent PPPoE connections that can be dialed from Windows, with the default being set to 1. You can find those WanEndPoints registry modifications in my Traffic Splitter thread (see my sig)
 
I have been having the same problem so I deleted and remade the network connections for the ISP connections concerned and got connected straight away!!

When I last looked, I seem to remember the Win 7 default reg setting for wan end points was 2. I don't split my local and international, so am not clued up on this. But a re-read of the OP suggests to me this is not his issue.
 
the dns servers getting cloged up with all the new users maybe? i dunno, be worried if it still fails after 10 retries

I can't see how the DNS server could have any effect on the PPPoE connection... The DNS servers only come into play once you try to resolve a hostname, like when visiting Websites.

you're right. it usually happens to me aswell and seems worse during the day, thats why i suspect there's something taking strain. reason i said dns is coz thats what everyone was saying in an other thread a while back, and the parrot will repeat, right? :)

Happens to me too on a D-link and Netgear. If i disconnect from a pppoe connection I need to redial like 6 times before its says verifying username and password. Maybe its telkom that is not Authenticating nicely? Or has a limit to how many times you can Authenticate a dsl connection in x number of seconds?
 
This has happened, and continues to happen. It has occured on XP SP3, Vista and Windows 7. Also, through Cybersmart, Afrihost, Ipeg and Webafrica ISP's.

This makes me think it is a Telkom issue somewhere.

Regardless, waiting a minute or 2 (max) is not the end of the world.
 
I first thought that it was my router and almost smashed it against the wall.
