sorry for posting here guys but i need your help.we want to lan and out of 7 pc's im the only one running win 7.now i just want a guide to how i can share my C drive and folders on network or set it up like XP cause i'm battling with network settings wrt hosting games like need 4 speed underground 2.it doesn't connect to lobby.any links would help..thanx and sorry again for posting here but i trust the masters on MyBB Hardware section...

There is a thread about it, just search. I know it's an awful, hit-and-miss and complicated process though ...... so good luck.

you see its that hit and miss ur talking about.im missing the whole time.why must setting up a network in win 7 be so difficult?Xp was wham, bam thank you officer and finish...

It's not that Win7 is hard, it's that Win7 doesn't like XP much at all. I had a LAN where I was the 1 with XP and it sucked .... the next LAN I had, I made sure I had Win7 and as I plugged in, bam, all networks were available to me.

network sharing centre -> change advanced sharing settings -> set everything right there first before sharing a file.

i did that but still people on the network cant access my drive.do you think i must uninstall and reinstall my network driver?the thing is i know in Xp what to do and how to enter settings ipv4 but ipv6 is a mystery wrt win 7 auto detecting.cant i work with the same workaround on xp for win 7?

Speaking about accessing, I had similar problems..

You have to first make sure that your anti-virus doesn't block your firewall.. (Which I notice it does.. ) And sometimes the win 7 firewall too... Then just the basic, you all need to be in the same workgroup...

Try setting a IP adress eg: 10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x then from cmd try to ping each other.. if the ping is there then something is blocking it.. IE: firewall...
I also read somewhere that they said:

network sharing centre -> change advanced sharing settings -> you have to change the one bit from 128-bit to 54-bit.. As they (XP) can only use 54-bit...

from the XP computers, i don't know if this is going to help, but after everytime you change something, you need to go to network place, on the left hand side there is a thing call "setup home or small office network.." just set it up.. and then when they ask you for sharing, say yes.. and workgroup type your workgroup in.. (MSHOME or workgroup..)

and then just finish..

Hope that helps.. I know how it feels NOT being able to LAN..

if you still have the problem, ask and I'll try other options.. as I also had this problem before when I LANNED ^ ^

I tried once to share things from the Windows 7 PC to other XP PCs and haven't bothered again, instead I just installed a FTP server on it (Filezilla Server works fine) and if you can ping it you can connect, pretty much end of sharing problems there with more control and features (minus streaming damnit lol).

Haven't had problems with the games I've tried, set each IP so they don't change and connect by IP, though only played a few games.
