Updates pending for a restart? That's when the weird stuff starts happening for my users who don't want to ever restart.
I can't get to the updates screen, settings icon i have pinned on the task bar opens and then closes.
I didn't so you must go there, I said you must restart if you haven't.
Any possible virus infection? Can you perform a full system scan with any AntiVirus program? The start button just stopped working, can't launch apps from cortana, can't launch settings.
Any ideas?
Or press the reset button. But I think the issue is due to virus infection if there is no Windows update issues.the following usually works for me when Explorer hangs or the Start button stops responding...
ctrl+alt+del
task manager
find process "Windows Explorer"
end task
if Explorer.exe doesn't restart on it's own
then
ctrl+alt+del again
task manager
file
run new task
explorer.exe
enter
