Has anyone ever had a situation where a Win7 Ultimate computer has just changed it's IP address all by itself?

More specifically from having an assigned address to switching over to DHCP?

control panel > internet options > connections > LAN settings. Untick "Automatically detect settings". Solves problems like this for me most times. IE messes with this setting a lot.

Why are you manually assigning the IP address of the PC anyway?

Ugh... I never see the point of doing that. Anyway, up to you.

Even if you make an IP static in your DHCP server, the day will come when the network card needs to be replaced or renewed.

DHCP has associated that IP with that MAC address and will only make it available once all other IPs have been used. So once the new card gets an IP address, it'll be different. That opens up cans of worms with our SNMP system.

It's just easier for me to say admin 1 is 192.168.100.100 and admin 2 is 192.168.100.101 etc until Kingdom Come.
