OK, so I can't think of changing anything in the last week or so, but this PC boots then I get the message that it detected a recent hardware change.

It boots and then I get a message that it will either do a system restore or that it will try repairing itself. Choosing either fails and it just reboots to the same screen.

The problem is I don't have the disk to do a repair :(

Any advice?

Have you tried pressing F8 on bootup and trying to restart your PC using the Last Known Good Configuration ?

See here for more info.

If you still are having hassles just download a Windows 7 Recovery ISO from one of the many Torrent sites.
