Hi there

I'm wondering if the mybroadband forum folks could help me out with regards to car window tinting.

I want to tint my car windows as dark as legally allowed. So my questions...

1) What are the things to know/look out for?
2) Where are the good places in Cape Town?
3) What is the average cost involved with window tinting?

Thanks in advance...

I recently did my windows at PG Glass. Your best option will be to get smash & grab which is tinted. I think the darkest you can get is 5%. I put 35% om my car. (the percentage is the percentage visibility so smaller percentage is darker.) I paid R1800 for the 4 side windows and the back one. If I have it correctly you also do not pay more for darker colours.

R1800 is the same price as the smash and grab from auto armour.

Is there a difference in the films? I know there is Auto Armour, there is also one called Llumar.

There are a few makes of Ansti Smash and grab tint. Llumar, solux and 3M to name a few. Most of them come with a 5yr gaurantee against fading and peeling. It depends on the fitment centre.

As for shade, the darkest legal shade is 35%, any darker and you will get fined if they check.

We have all of our cars done by Super Shield who fit Lumar with a 5 year warranty.

Three shades of smash and grab are legally available - Clear, 50% and 35%. Any darker than 35% and you are theoretically in for a fine.

R1800 is the same price as the smash and grab from auto armour.

And they throw in a full valet wash. Very happy with their work. I got mine done at the CTICC. They pay for your parking too so you can leave the car their all day.
