Windows 10 deleting files on external HD

It's just the slave television PC downstairs, doesn't have internet or LAN. I don't know it's just like that. I share a house with two others and we just use that one for movies.

mmmmmaybe some funkyness in a users "shared experiences" or a users sync settings or onedrive mucking about? does it happen if the computers are offline

being made hidden automatically, or being auto encrypted and then not visible by a user. does the external hdd have all its free space available.

Also had Windows 10 start deleting files / screwing around with files on my external hard drive. Can't remember what I did to stop it.
Bloody thing nearly gave me a heart attack. Luckily back up of a back up saved my ass.
Now Linux machine is used to access my external drives. Fekkin Windows is a virus.
 
That sounds like a failing drive or bad sectors. The bad sectors would account for the data loss. (not deleted pictures just where it was on the drive is not working so just gone)
You need to backup all the data left on the drive now, so you don't lose any more. Then you can see about resolving what's wrong with the drive.
Keep in mind: never have stuff you can't replace on one drive always have it backed up to at least one other drive.

You were bang on the money shot there. External HD just packed up. The ticking of death and files being deleted. RIP. Old drive though so its done its time.

Maybe open it up and check that the heads are not stuck in place, also had a drive clicking, opened it up and heads where stuck so moved them over with a pencil, drive started working again.
even hard disk sentinel said nothing was wrong.
