Windows 10 is losing ground to other operating systems

Absolute bull@@##$%$t about changing the date
You hit a security certificate problem with the date change which stops you logging into Microsoft
 
Install Windows 10 , when asked for a license key put in a valid Windows 7 License key.
Once Windows 10 is installed you will see it's activated and you now have a Windows 10 digital License tied to that computer.
However Windows 7 License will now be unusable. I've done this many times, works every time.
 
I feel left out. Can I also make a post about some random windows issue that has nothing to do with the article?

Company I'm working at just purchased 70 chromebooks for all their staff and will be decommissioning all their windows based systems including servers.
 
I've had to many problems with Windows 10, tested 2 machines connected to a server..(apart from my main network), I do not like auto updates, no matter how critical they are,at that time I couldn't find a setting or app to block it completely. I don't keep track of Windows 10 though, I only read here and there about updates going wrong. I can't afford to loose any data, data corruption or personal files that's being deleted by updates. That's the only thing keeping me from upgrading my whole network. Personally I am not embarrassed to say I am not ready to move from Windows 7.

If you're a Windows user you really should be on Office 365 at this point. And if you are, then your stuff will be safely stored in OneDrive. My PC could explode right now and all I'd need to do on the replacement machine is download my apps again. This is the way.

With a simple Chocolatey script saved to your OneDrive you could even automate the installation of apps to an extent

Backups are done offsite,automatically. Office365 has a subscription and I won't approve it on my network soon. My argument is that although there is a risk with every update or upgrade, there should be backups yes, but one should not battle after an upgrade or update, it's downtime for the company/users and my data is at risk. Maybe the tables will turn with the support ending - until then, I have no plans to upgrade my network.

Add: In the past 12 years, I have reinstalled Windows 7 2x only because of hard drive failure. In my testing machines for Windows 10, however, I lost count.
 
I'm disappointed Linux didn't gain more market share and create some real competition on the desktop side

It's so outdated in 2019 to still have most people tied into one operating system - specially one which is so frustrating

Windows 10 Pro and Office 365 Enterprise/ Business Premium are very stable and reliable. Just about every business I work with is running them. The value of Business Premium is hard to beat: 1TB storage per employee and MS Office, and opex'd instead of capex'd.

The only stuff I've heard of going really wrong is when 3rd party software stops working correctly/at all after an update. And that just leads to that company getting shat on a lot and improving their service, like BCX here in SA.

Without support for major business software and integrations, especially Adobe CC, I can't imagine too many businesses having any interest in Linux.
 
Installed Win10 on my miner. Right out of the box it randomly reboots during installation. When I install the graphics drivers it crashes during installation. I eventually had to do a complete reinstall to get things working. First use it's completely unusable until I disable windows defender. Now I can at least access files.

People who say it's fast is just placebo on fast machines where you wouldn't notice a slowdown. It boots up pretty fast but not as fast Win7 but the real difference becomes apparent that after the splash screen it's still not actually loaded and I have to wait at least another 30 seconds before all the drivers are loaded.

If I didn't make up my mind before then I have now Windows 10 will not be my main pc.
 
I have just gone through an exercise where my wife's uncles win 10 machine got borked in an update and we needed to reinstall. Lost a lot of data since it was impossible to get into windows in any way to fix the issue. Managed to get it off using an external enclosure but yeah. That alone soured me on the whole win 10 thing. Force updates on people and then the update breaks your system, no thanks.

***For those wondering how the data was lost if the files were there, it was old GPS data from a cycling computer. had the files but the software won't import the files as it changes the data when importing from the GPS so it picks them up as already in the system.

Yup. I think the problem starts with word and excel being used as 'standards'. As I consultant, I have to swap files with my clients, otherwise I would be very happy with open source.

Word and Excel don't even follow standards with some versions breaking previous ones.
 
When it comes to Linux it will always not prevail just because it’s not taught in schools or leaning institutions (Yes there are leaning institutions that do teach Linux, but not approached with commercial dominance in the job market) . As I see it mainly because Microsoft with it’s billions can act as a bully to the world at large, since money talks. People generally are not prepared to learn and prefer to have there hands held, reluctantly having Windows continue to give the World continued headache’s and frustrations. There are enough programmers in the World to make Linux more wizard friendly, and the OS is fully capable of having the best commercial software. The other problem that will always be there, just like Apple Mac is the adjustment in how to work with a different Operating system with the plan to want to adjust and learn.

Hasn't every year since 1998 been proclaimed the year of Linux?

I run Windows 10 on all my machines and sell laptops and desktops for a living. I haven't had one report of users losing data after an update. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it just hasn't happened to me or my clients.
