Hi all,

I need some advice, i am sitting with a family members pc that they cannot log into.... the logon email address on the logon screen doesnt match the microsoft account they have given me and logging in online to that doesn't show this device, so i cant see how that password is lynced but they think it is, i am guessing they just used the same password at some point.

If i try to reset the password it tells me there is no microsoft account matching that email address. To add to this the machine has bitlocker encryption and the password is of course also unknown...

is there any possible way to get in so that we don't lose all the data without having to format the drive and reinstall?

any advice appreciated.

Just spit balling here for a bit, but have you tried this:
If your password stops working after Windows 10 update, it may work when Windows 10 starts in safe mode. 1. When you are at the login screen, click the Power button and click Restart while holding down the Shift key. ... After Windows 10 restarts into safe mode, enter your correct password to log on.

You can also try login both online and offline.

Check Network Connection Status
In most of cases, there might be a problem with your network connection and because of that you can’t connect to your Microsoft account. At Windows 10 login screen, click on the Network icon in the lower-right-hand corner.

There are also various utilities like PCUnlocker:

PCUnlocker is a bootable CD that can help you reset / bypass Windows user password, as well as converting your Microsoft account to a local one offline. Just boot your Windows 10 PC from the CD, the program automatically finds the SAM (Security Account Manager) file for your Windows installation and lists all your local users.

Hey,

yeah i have tried connecting online as well.

The safe mode thing is a bust because of Bitlocker also, similar to PCUnlocker

If you don't have the Bitlocker key (and can't remember the windows login / password) then I suspect that you're not going to be able to get to the data.

Edit: Try this

Could try these methods too:

the problem with trying to decrypt the bitlocker is that the laptop is one of those sealed jobs, a dell vostro...
