Windows 10 or Asus Device Drivers?

Hi all,

I did a clean install of Windows over the weekend. I downloaded the latest ISO from the Microsoft website and after the installation was completed my Windows 10 Pro x64 version is 1607 build 14393.447.

I noticed that there are no yellow exclamation marks under device manager and everything appears to be working just fine. My motherboard is an Asus Maximus VIII Hero.

My question is should I still install the latest Asus drivers from their website for the Intel INF driver etc. or will the Windows 10 drivers suffice?

Download snappy driver installer and that will do the work for you.

Not the full 14GB torrent just the 4meg.exe

That's exactly my conundrum. In this case the 3rd party software is by the motherboard's manufacturer itself, so I was wondering whether the Asus drivers would contain any optimisations which the Windows drivers do not include, or are they essentially one and the same?

A year ago when I bought the motherboard and Windows 10 I definitely had to install the Asus drivers off the supplied CD as there were yellow exclamation marks everywhere. A year later and it appears as if Windows has everything covered, or does it?

Just download it off the manufacturer's website, why question it?

Just download it off the manufacturer's website, why question it?

Because the revision numbers on the manufacturer's website are older than what Windows is showing, but I'm not sure if I'm comparing apples with apples. For example, the latest ASMedia USB 3.0 driver on the Asus website is version 1.1.35 whilst Windows automatically installed an ASMedia USB 3.0 driver version 1.1.38. I don't know whether the Windows driver is essentially the latest version of the same thing, or whether it is worth my while to "downgrade" to the Asus driver because it contains optimisations by the manufacturer.

In any case I'll just let it be. My system is running stable after all. Thanks for the help.

Last week a colleague did a clean Win 10 Pro install on a top-end Asus. Everything covered, no bangs in Device Manager. All works well, and the crapware is gone.
