Windows 10 Technical Preview - Insider Program

Installed on a VMware vm, so far no issues. I chose English UK which of course gave me the wrong key mapping for my US keyboard. I (It) have remedied this probably from my Microsoft login which I'd previously set up.

Interesting is the Mail option - I connected to my sbs 2008account without issues, just entered the requisite data. This didn't work in win 8.

If this was not so early in the cycle I think I could be using it in a live environment. Hope I haven't tempted fate :)

FOund 2 little issues so far.

1. Setting the account to logon automatically breaks something in explorer when rebooting.
2. When running in a dual screen config the awesomesauce quadrant snap feature doesn't work anymore.. I can snap to half screen on each side (sort of) but not to a quadrant. Sort of expected this though.

See right hand screen. Ignore the clearly frozen bit on the left:whistle:

I tried running a few games on Windows 10 Technical Preview, the game lags and eventually crashes. I got the latest Nvidia driver installed, and Intel HD Graphics driver installed.

Other applications like MS Office work well....I had a couple of issues with trying to run dual screens, but I eventually got around it (A restart managed to get the GPU to pick up the TV and change the scaling)

Damn slow at the moment downloading UK x64 version.

So as i understand it we can keep running this version for Free with updates until the release where we will have to buy it?

Why do you have both drivers installed ?? Shouldn't you just have the Nvidia drivers installed?

Also I doubt Nvidia has had a lot of time to work on their drivers for windows 10 (maybe they got to get a pre pre release? but who knows)

Might be a while before Nvidia drivers are available. Well at-least fully windows 10 compatible ones

Win X can suck a lemon.

??

Downloaded, installed and working fine. Installed it as dual boot option. No issues. Intel VGA drivers automatically installed and are fine. Dual screens working fine. Chrome downloaded and working fine.

Overall not bad at all. Installation looked like windows 8.1 install. I have a SSD drive so booting is only a few seconds. Already getting used to the dual start menu.

I will actually use it as my main system for now. See what happens.

Downloaded mine from University in 3 min :D. Coping the .iso to my USB 2.0 flash drive took longer about 20min.

At the moment its just windows 8.1 with fancy start menu and multitasking stuff.

You need both for Nvidia Optimus to work properly, if that is the case.

EDIT: Runs like a demon on my MSI laptop. No driver issues so far, looks like a solid release.
I have doubts on the "built from the ground up" bit :) It really is just 8.1 with a couple of cosmetic changes.

Hmm okay didn't know that.

Yeah I'm sure they've said that about ever windows release...

just found this in my event viewer:

"App Microsoft.Cortana_1.2.0.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe+CortanaUI did not launch within its allotted time."

Also finding errors from early September :wtf:

Never been a fan of the whole Microsoft OS keeping your settings and info in their "cloud" since Windows 8 thing.

But, after installing Windows 10 and having the wallpaper from my Windows 8 PC show up on the desktop and my Gmail's automatically download I finally realize MS has way too much of my personal info :erm:

Just disable syncing....

pc settings > onedrive > sync settings

I got annoyed that my VM had the same desktop wallpaper as my host machine (my workstation) and kept getting confused with which machine I was on. So I turned sync off..

For some reason I still have the normal start screen and not the new start menu. Has any one else had this issue? I did an in place upgrade from Windows 8.

Right click the task bar and go to the start menu tab. See if the check box next to "Use the start menu instead of the Start screen" is checked.

Other than that I have no idea what could have happened

Hmmm... anyone else getting getting the following error when trying to move items?

skipmove.jpg

The files/folders are indeed there... just Windows unable to move them... I have to copy and paste then delete as any attempt to move gives that error.
